About us
Scarpe didn't start as Scarpe.
Where It Began
It began at the Ramses factory, under the hands of a craftsman known in the trade as "Abdo Karkour" — who learned the craft from a young age, piece by piece, until his name became synonymous with quality.
A Craft Passed Down
This trade wasn't learned from a book. It was handed down from father to son, the way the best crafts always are: by watching, practising and repeating until the hands know what to do. When it came to us, we gave it a new name and a fresh look — Scarpe. The hands, the methods and the respect for the work are the same.
The Vespa Story
In 1962, a craftsman named Ismat saw a Vespa scooter — and saw something else entirely. Its front guard inspired the strap, its front became the sandal's face, its seat support became the heel strap. He brought the idea back to the workshop, and that same model is still sold today — more than 60 years later.
Not Mass Production — A Craft We Keep Alive
Scarpe is not a factory line. Every pair and every bag is shaped, cut and woven by hand, one piece at a time, by Egyptian craftsmen. We see this as an art and a trade worth protecting, not a process to speed up. Small differences in the handmade details are what give each design its character.
Woven Leather, Just for the Love of It
The same hand-weaving craft is not limited to shoes and bags. This banquette is a hobby project: we wove it for the love of the craft, to see how far it can go. We are not furniture makers. We make shoes and bags. But it shows what this craft can do when it is treated as an art.
Bringing Natural Leather Back
In Abdo Karkour's time, Egyptian workshops worked with natural leather and took pride in it. We are going back to that: reviving natural leather in hand-braided shoes and bags, made by Egyptian hands and offered at prices that make sense. Our idea of affordable luxury is simple: the craftsmanship you would expect from international luxury houses that charge thousands of dollars, made in Egypt, at prices an Egyptian woman can actually afford.
Materials vary by product and selected version, and each product page states its material. "Hand-braided" describes the technique we use.
Today
Carrying the same workshop spirit forward since 2017, we're expanding our craft beyond shoes: bags, belts, and hand-braided accessories for the modern woman.
